The year ahead for Flowerdog Designs
2019 was a success personally, we had so many lovely family events and we’ve travelled more than usual, but it did take me away from my sewing room.
So over the Christmas break I sat down with my notebooks and made a list of all the things I want to do with Flowerdog over the next 12 months.
New stand-alone embroidery and applique designs
I have lots of embroidery and appliques that need a final polish before they can go up on the shop. In fact at the last count I had enough to release something new every week through 2020. My testers are going to be busy.
Quilts on the embroidery machine
Using the embroidery machine has transformed my quilt making. It’s so much faster to piece in the hoop, not to mention that it’s much more accurate than all that quarter-inch seaming on the sewing machine. I’ve been working on some quilt-as-you-go blocks, some pieced in the hoop and some applique. The blocks themselves are quick to make, but it takes me a while to make enough for a whole quilt. Watch this space!
I’ve also wanted to make more mini quilts for ages, ever since the success of the Tulip one from a couple of years ago. Eventually, I’d like to release one every month, but let’s start with a couple and see how it goes. Look out for a sweet Cherry Blossom mini quilt in the next few weeks. Perfect for looking ahead to spring.
I know, we’ve hardly finished with this Christmas yet! But in 2020 I have a plan to start work on Holiday designs much earlier (I know, we all say that every year…).
I have so many ideas for Christmas and holiday-themed appliques and embroideries, plus I’ve been playing with patterns for lots of things to add them to. Coming your way: zipper bags, stockings, kitchen linens, cushions…as well as more quilts.
I’ve listened to what you’ve been saying in the Facebook group and I’ve created designs for smaller hoops as well as the big ones that I personally love to use. I know many of you need projects that fit in the 5×7 hoop, so that’s what I’ve been focusing on. Look out too for a special project for Valentine’s day, designed to fit the 4×4 hoop.
Tips and tutorials
I’ve been embroidering for a few years now and I’m still learning, so I guess many of you are too. There are a couple of tutorials on the blog already, but I want to write a lot more. There are new techniques popping up all the time, even though needlework is such an ancient art. And especially now that we have so many fabulous machines at our disposal, our craft is an opportunity to constantly expand our skills and knowledge.
I’ve even been thinking about dipping my toe into Facebook live, and perhaps making the odd YouTube video.
2020 will see the llama herd increasing. I have a super cute nursery quilt planned, that uses appliques of llamas and cactuses. If you’re not into making quilts, all the blocks do double duty as appliques for use on all sorts of other things.
Plus more variants of old favourites AND some bundles of all the llama designs, at special prices because I truly do appreciate your support and custom.
