Easy! Just complete the form

What do I need?

As long as you have an embroidery machine with a minimum sewing field of 4×4, an email address for me to send the files to, and a computer to open them, you can take part!

The digital files for each block will be sent to you every week by email along with full instructions. You’ll get each block in 5 sizes: 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, 7×7 and 8×8.

The blocks use a combination of techniques including applique, embroidery and in-the-hoop piecing, and are quilted in-the-hoop.

You’ll get full instructions for making the block and for assembling and binding the finished quilt.

When does it start?

The first block files will be released on August 3rd. You’ll get a new block each Monday after that

Block 1 August 3rd
Block 2 August 10th
Block 3 August 17th
Block 4 August 24th
Block 5 August 31st
Block 6 September 7th
Block 7 September 14th
Block 8 September 21st
Finish September 28th

Once the QAL is complete all the blocks and instructions will be available to purchase. But don’t wait! Register now and take part for free.

What if I miss the start?

If you join after August 3rd, when we start, you’ll get an email with links to any files you’ve missed so far.

Then you’ll get the regular Monday email with everyone else.

You can download the files any time until the end of the Quilt-Along, on 30th September.

After that all the files will be bundled into one pattern and will be available for purchase in my Flowerdog Etsy store or here in my online shop

I signed up but I didn’t get an email

You need to check your email folders for a confirmation email. Once you sign up you’ll get an email titled “Please confirm your subscription” asking you to confirm your correct email address. It looks like this (it will have your name and email where the {$name} and {$email} parts are, of course):

You absolutely MUST click the orange button to confirm or you won’t get added to the list and you won’t get emails.

I think ninety per cent of people who don’t get emails haven’t confirmed their address.

If you don’t see it, it may be in your junk or spam or trash folders. Or you may have to wait a little while. Some email services can be a little slow.

Make sure you add to your contacts. This helps make sure emails I send you end up in your inbox.

If you still can’t find the confirmation email, you can try signing up again.

What formats will the files be?

All the block designs are supplied as zip files.

The zip file includes the following file formats:

dst, exp, hus, jef, pes, vip, vp3, xxx.

Need another format? Message me and I’ll try to help.

Also included are step by step instructions and a colour chart.

How will you send me the files?

Usually, when I sell an embroidery file on Etsy or on my website, I’ll email the zip as an attachment on your confirmation email.

That works fine for individual sales, but for something like this quilt-along, where I’ve sent over 1000 emails all in one go, it will overload the email server and just isn’t practical.

So I’ve done things differently. Which sometimes freaks a few people out 😱   😱  😱

Trust me, this works fine.

Your email will have a button that says send me the files, or there will be a list of links to files and information like this at the bottom of the email

When you click the links in your email, you’ll go to a google drive folder with all the zip files listed. I’ve taken a screenshot from my laptop. Yours might look slightly different depending on your browser etc, but the files will all be there.

Pick the size you want and click it. The zip file will download to your desktop and you’ll be able to open it as usual and pick the format that suits your machine.

The step-by-step instructions are in a separate zip file in the same folder.

How much will it cost?

During the whole of August and September, you get all the files and information totally free of charge. All the files will be available for download until the end of September 30th 2020.

You’ll need to purchase the fabrics, batting, stabiliser and threads. You’ll find quantity charts in these printable information sheets.

How big is the quilt?

The block designs are in 5 sizes

4×4, 5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8

Hoop size:  Finished quilt size:
4×4  26 x26
5×5 32 x 32
6×6 38 x 38
7×7 44 x 44
8×8 50 x 50

Sizes are approximate and depend on how accurate your block joining is, and how wide you make your binding (I’ve included a 1” binding in these dimensions)

Want a bigger quilt? Make more blocks and mix them up to create your own unique variation.
